Balrampur, Chhattisgarh: The sustained efforts of Balrampur-Ramanujganj district towards water conservation have received national recognition, with Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Shri C.R. Patil, highlighting the district's achievements on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. The Minister appreciated the district's community-driven initiatives in rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and sustainable water conservation, bringing national attention to Balrampur's innovative approach.

Under Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 2025 (JSJB 3.0), the district has geo-tagged more than 55,000 water conservation structures within a short span. These include gully plugs, brushwood plugs, loose boulder checks, boulder check dams, check dams, livelihood farm ponds (Aajeevika Dabris), farm ponds, desilting and rejuvenation of ponds, soak pits, recharge pits, community wells, and the locally adapted Korea Model, all designed to maximize rainwater harvesting and enhance groundwater recharge.

These interventions are aimed at conserving every possible drop of rainwater, improving groundwater levels, and ensuring long-term water security for rural communities. The initiative has evolved into a true people's movement through active participation of Gram Panchayats, elected representatives, Self-Help Groups, farmers, and local communities, supported by coordinated efforts of multiple government departments.

The recognition of Balrampur's work by the Union Jal Shakti Minister on a national platform is a matter of pride for the district. More importantly, it demonstrates that community participation, innovation, and effective implementation can create a replicable model for sustainable water resource management across the country.

"Balrampur's resolve to conserve every drop of water has now earned national recognition."
