An XL bully is loose in Sheffield after police shot at it.
Officers were summoned on Friday night after a speech in the city’s Hillfoot area following reports of gunfire, South Yorkshire police said.
They entered the property in Daniel Hill Street after receiving a call at about 22.04 hours.
Inside, they discovered the dog and it became aggressive, causing armed officers to fired a shot there and the animal to flee, the power said.
It is not known if the dog was injured.

Chief Superintendent for Sheffield Jamie Henderson said in a statement: ‘I want to assure you that we do everything in our power to find the dog or find those who have it possible to evade the police’s contact.
‘We appreciate that people in our communities are vigilant, and I ask that you get contact immediately when you see the dog.
“I urge you not to approach the dog because we believe it has the ability to show aggression and damage.”
The possession of an XL bully without a valid exemption certificate has been illegal in England and Wales since new legislation came into effect on 1 February 2024.
