Woman we killed in chromwell crash appointed


Police released the name of the woman who died after an accident in Cromwell over the weekend.

She was Donna Marie Melcher, 65, from the US.

Police were warned of the accident, which closed the State Highway 6, near the McNulty RD cross, around 10:30 am on Saturday.

One person died on the spot and a second person was transported to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries.

A police spokesman tonight said a 60-year-old man was accused of driving carelessly, causing death and careless direction, causing injuries, and should reappear in the district court of Alexandra tomorrow.

The -void door said the police continued to offer support to the dead woman’s family.

Death is one of six at Central Otago Roads for the past five weeks, the toll leaving local authorities and the emergency staff horrified and asking drivers to focus on safely.
