The incident developed in a complex in Bowman Street in Pyrmont around 4.50 am today.
It was told to the police that a man had supposedly forced the entrance to the unit and stabbed the woman in the head before fleeing.
The paramedics treated her at the scene and took her to the hospital as a stable condition.
It is believed that the man and the woman are known to each other, according to the police.
Another woman and two children were also at home at that time, but they didn’t suffer injuries.
Police have established a crime scene and began an investigation into the incident.
