Louise Bridge will be temporarily closed for repairs on Friday.
From 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the bridge will approach the traffic of the vehicle as the crew repairs the bridge’s bearings. The western sidewalk will remain open.
“My understanding is just annual maintenance at the moment, just the initial look,” Mayor Scott Gillingham said.

According to the Manitoba Historical Society, the bridge was built in 1910. This 115-year-old building was originally a railway bridge, and it was then converted into a vehicle.
Last year, a city report found that the bridge needs to be updated by 2030. Problems with the bridge include “widespread bridge deck deterioration, non-functional support bearings, structural steel deterioration and deterioration of underwater river docks”.
“Ultimately, in this budget, we do have the money we talked about in the next few years, and we have approved so that we can extend the life of the Louise Bridge by 25 years,” Gillingham said.
These major repairs are scheduled to begin in 2029.
