There will be no comedy -monologist during the dinner of the White House correspondents, after the organizers announced that they had canceled an appearance by Amber Ruffin, saying that they did not want to focus on “The Politics of Division.”
The comic section of the annual event often makes headlines. The jokes of Michelle Wolf about Trump, abortion and gun control became viral in 2018, while Stephen Colbert was famous in 2006. In 2011, host Seth Meyers and President Barack Obama told a series of jokes that mocked Donald Trump – which culminated in the audience.
Ruffin, a 46-year-old stand-up comic and author for Late night with Seth Meyers, was scheduled to perform at this year’s event.
However, Taylor Budowich, head of deputy head of the White House, shared a track on Friday about X from Ruffin who interviewed her appearance. Budowich has criticized the decision to discuss her and call her a ‘2nd rate comedian’ who ‘calls the preview of the event by these administration’ murderers ‘who want to feel like people, but they should not feel that way because you are not’.
The next day, Eugene Daniels, the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, who organizes the meal, sent a message to colleagues announcing that Ruffin would no longer perform.
“The WHCA Council has unanimously decided that we no longer have a comic performance this year,” Daniels wrote.
He continued: “At this resulting moment for journalism. I want to ensure that the focus is not on the politics of division, but entirely on the award of our colleagues for their excellent work and providing science and mentoring to the next generation of journalists.”
This year’s correspondent dinner of this year will take place on April 26 at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC.
Even after the announcement that Ruffin will no longer appear at the event, Budowich continued to criticize the organizers.

In a follow-up tweet he wrote: ‘No liability at [the White House Correspondents’ Association]Just a COP OUT -SETTER – PATIENTS!
“Many WHCA members are privately pointing to Eugene to make the unilateral decision to recruit and sign this garbage, hate-filled comedian.
“Yet they are all a blind eye for it in public. It is an accusation of how broken and useless this organization has become … so sad that such a deepened and consequent group has been driven to an unimportance so quickly. Ah, good.
