Key points
- British and EU countries have asked for the end of the devastating Sudan War.
- The conversations in London gathered ministers from 15 countries and high -level representatives of international organizations.
- The Commissioner of Political Affairs of the African Union, Bankole Adeoye, said that only an unconditional ending for fighting can resolve the crisis.
The countries of Great Britain and the European Union directed international conversations in London for “a high immediate and permanent fire” to end the devastating war in Sudan, since the nations promised more than $ 1.4 billion in fresh humanitarian aid.
The international community also “emphasized the need to prevent any sudan partition,” said a statement at the end of a London conference, since the conflict entered its third year.
The war broke out on April 15, 2023 in a bitter struggle of power between rival generals leading the regular Sudan army and the paramilitary rapid support forces (RSF).
None of strong men, whose forces have been accused of atrocities, were present for London conversations that gathered ministers from about 15 countries and high -level representatives of international organizations such as the United Nations.
More than 13 million people have been uprooted and tens of thousands dead in what the United Nations describes as the worst hunger and displacement crises of the world.
“We simply cannot look the other way,” said the United Kingdom Foreign Minister David Lammy, while opening the conversations.
“We have to persuade the parties at war to protect civilians, let them help inside and throughout the country and put peace first,” he said.
Until now, several peace efforts have not led to a high fire.
But Lammy said it was “morally incorrect” renouncing Sudan “when we see so many decapitated civilians, babies as young as one undergoing sexual violence, more people who face the famine than anywhere else in the world.”
The continuous struggle has fed fears that tensions spill on the borders of Sudan and stir more instability in the impoverished Horn of Africa region.
The final statement “stressed that the non -interference of external actors remains essential.”
“Also rejected any plan, including any announcement of parallel governments, which risk unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sudan.”
“There can be no military solution in Sudan, only an immediate and unconditional secession of hostilities,” he warned the Political Affairs Commissioner of the African Union, Bankole Adeoye earlier in the day, urging inclusive peace conversations.

Rape and famine
An evaluation backed by the UN has concluded that the famine is now committing parts of the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain said that more than 30 million people had a desperate need, and that 12 million women and girls were in danger of gender -based violence.
Lammy released $ 250 million in new aid for Sudan, with the EU promising more than $ 928 million to address the crisis, and Germany obtained about $ 223 million.
France also announced additional $ 89 million in humanitarian aid this year.
