Actress Samantha Davis, the wife of Warwick Davis, died after suffering hours before she was discharged from the hospital, an investigation found.
Mrs Davis (53) has died at London University College Hospital on March 24 last year.
She was admitted six and a half weeks before, after a disk prolapse caused a sudden mobility in her lower limbs.
She then underwent a thoracotomy operation on February 20 – a surgical procedure where the breast wall is opened.
After a second thoracotomy on March 14, Mrs. Davis’s condition improves and the hospital is planning to discharge her, the investigation into the court in the West -West London said.
However, on March 23 at 23.25 hours, she arrested at 23.25 and was pronounced dead on March 24 at 0.28 hours, following a failed attempt to relive her.
Senior Coroner -Professor Fiona Wilcox said she is satisfied with the cause of death “must be arrhythmic cardiac arrest and complications to left thoracotomies”.
Mrs Davis had Achondroplasia, a bone growth disorder leading to dwarfism, “complicated by very severe spinal problems” that needs multiple surgeries from 2016, the forerunner added.
The hospital provided “nothing but excellent care” and all Mrs. Davis’s “complications were appropriately managed,” Prof Wilcox said.
“It is honestly heartbreaking that the operation itself was only successful for complications to arise and to cause her death,” she added.
David Lawrence, a cardiothoracic surgeon at University College London Hospitals, said Mrs. Davis’ condition “progressed well”.
During her hospital accommodation, she removed two surgical breast discharge – the second on the day she sustained the cardiac arrest, he said.
“The original plan was the next day the next day that she would be fired the next day the next day,” he told the investigation.
“We had good evidence that this patient had an X-ray on the chest that was acceptable, very stable observations and that this patient did not bleed during the day.”
