A 35-year-old Whitby man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on children and adults.

Durham area police said the first alleged incident occurred in January when the suspect was visiting a friend in Clarlington and touched a nine-year-old in an inappropriate manner.
The second incident allegedly occurred in February. Police said the defendant allegedly sexually assaulted an adult in a Whitby home. Police said the victim allegedly woke up to commit a suspect who sexually assaulted her. The suspect then took the victim to his car, and he allegedly attacked her, too.
Police said they fear there might be other victims.

Jared Mercieca has committed suicide due to sexual interference with a person under the age of 16, two counts of sexual assault, assault caused personal injury, suffocation, and threats to cause death and dangerous action.
He is a white male, 5-foot-6, has a medium body, brown hair and beard.
