The announcement occurs when the minimum wage receives an increase from $ 0.35 to $ 23.50 from this Tuesday, April 1.
The decent salary is established by the Living Aotearoa NZ salary, a union coalition and other groups without any connection with the government.
Many government contracts use worthy salary – although the current government has proposed to remove this requirement.
The new worthy salary would guarantee that employees of one of the 342 credited salaries earned at least $ 5.45 per hour more than the minimum wage, which is defined by the government.
“The decent salary has made a real difference to workers for over a decade,” said Gina Lockyer, NZ’s executive director of the salary in a statement.
“For many workers and their families, it is the difference between being able to survive or stay behind. It is able to pay school uniforms and medical expenses. This means not having to decide between making a grocery store or paying the power bill.”
Lockyer expressed concern about the government’s proposal to rule out the use of decent wages.
“If the changes go ahead, these workers will lose the new life salary rate and any future increase,” she said.
“The government has two options – a decent salary that improves community results and providing services or difficulties for people who maintain their agencies safe, healthy and safe.”
