Veteran Cabinet Minister Michael Gove received a peer in the list of resignation honors of Rishi Sunak.

Mr. Gove – now editor of the Spectator Magazine – was elected to Parliament for the first time in 2005 and immediately joined the then conservative leader David Cameron’s shadow cabinet.

He was appointed education secretary when the party entered the government in 2010 and held several cabinet posts to the general election in 2024, when he stood from parliament.

Mr. Sunak elevated seven allies to the House of Lords, including former cabinet ministers Market harper, Victoria Prentis, Alister Jackand Simon heart. Former CEO of the Conservative Party, Stephen Masseyalso becomes a peer, as well as Eleanor Shawcrossformer Head of the No10 policy unit. He also awarded a number of honors.

It is traditionally for prime ministers to award peers and other Gongs at their resignation from office – with important political allies, donors and staff often rewarded.

An outgoing prime minister may request that the ruling monarch counterparts, knight, Dameehood or other awards in the British honors system give any number of people.

In the case of Peerages, the list of the House of Lords wipes the list, and for other honors the Cabinet Office does checks.

Resignation -Honors are separate from the dissolution of the dissolution, awarded by the established Prime Minister and opposition leaders following the dissolution of Parliament before a general election.

Here are the biggest names that Mr. Sunak honored:

Michael Gove – Peerage

From when the conservatives returned to the government in 2010, Michael Gove spent almost in a ministerial role all the time.

After reforming the education system, he held roles such as Chief Whip, environmental secretary, secretary of justice and secretary of housing.

He led the pro-brexit side of the 2016 referendum with Boris Johnson, and famously sunk the leadership of the latter with his own.

However, both failed at that time, and the reputation of Mr. Gove never recovered to allow him another good track.

The debt was refunded when Mr. Johnson Mr. Gove fired when his administration collapsed in 2022.

Mr. Gove returned to the government under Rishi Sunak and eventually retired from the Commons at the 2024 election.

James Anderson – Knightood

One of England’s most successful cricketers, Jimmy Anderson, received a knight in the avid cricket fan Rishi Sunak’s resignation list.

He is considered one of the biggest bowlers in the history of the sport, and has the record for most wickets that took a quick bowler in Test cricket.

Jeremy Hunt – Knightood

Jeremy Hunt, a former chancellor and serial runner-up in Tory leadership competitions, was ever present in conservative cabinets while the party was in government.

He was both foreign secretary and secretary of the defense before he did not take over the party after Theresa May stood aside.

After an edge on the back, Mr. Hunt returned as Chancellor under Liz Truss in an effort to stabilize markets – to keep this position under Rishi Sunak.

Despite persistent speculation that he would be put in favor of Claire Coutinho, Mr. Hunt retained his work to the general election in 2024 – where he won his seat and now sits as a backbencher.

James Cleverly – Knightood

James, a former leader of the Conservatives in the London meeting, entered Parliament at the 2015 general election as the MP for Braintree.

In 2018, he was appointed deputy chairman of the party, and in April 2019 he was appointed minister in the Brexit division.

Boris Johnson appointed him as party chairman after taking over the top post, and he adopted a succession of junior ministerial posts before becoming education secretary following the resignation of Mr. Johnson as prime minister.

Liz Truss appointed him as Minister of Foreign Affairs – a post he held until November 2023 when Rishi Sunak David Cameron brought back for the role, and he took over as Minister of Home Affairs – a position he held to the general election.

Mr. Cleverly was one of the lucky cabinet ministers who survived the labor shift and retained his seat. But he was less successful in the Conservative Party Leadership Competition and lost in the final round of MP.

Andrew Mitchell – Knightood

The former Deputy Foreign Minister has been a match in Westminster since 1987, when he was first elected as the MP for Gamling. He was appointed to government in 1994, but lost his seat in the Tony Blair land shift in 1997.

He returned to Parliament in 2001 as the MP for Sutton Coldfield, and adopted a number of shadow cabinet and then the cabinet roles in his appointment in the foreign office in 2022, before becoming Deputy Foreign Minister at David Cameron in 2024.

He came to a public prominence in September 2012 when he allegedly swore when a police officer told him to take off his bicycle and leave Downing Street by the pedestrian gate rather than the main gate. The incident became known as “Plebgate”.

Mel Stride – Knightood

He was one of Rishi Sunak’s nearest assistants and chaired his campaign to be Tory leader against Liz Truss and was rewarded with the work and pensions shortly when his husband finally entered number 10.

He was also a prominent figure in the downfall of Ms Truss as chairman of the Treasury Select Committee – and regularly requested information from the Treasury and Bank of England that highlighted harmful information.

He was a competent media artist and was ever present during the general election, while he unsuccessfully tried Mr. Sunak to get back in office.

Mr. Stride retained his seat after the vote and was rewarded by Kemi Badenoch with a role as a shadow chancellor of the treasure trove.

Stephen Massey – Peerage

Stephen Massey, described by former Chancellor George Osborne as a ‘wise man’, was appointed CEO of the Conservative Party in November 2022 after Rishi Sunak took over as leader in the Coronation Leadership Contest, followed the collapse of the Truss Government.

After spending his career as a financial advisor, Mr. Sunak probably thought he was a safe pair of hands to entrust the leadership of the party machinery as they built their war box before the upcoming election.

The personal donations of £ 343,000 to the party and £ 25,000 to Mr. Sunak’s leadership campaign probably also made him an attractive candidate for the work.

Has Rishi Sunak awarded honors before?

Mr Sunak before Peerages granted To former Prime Minister Theresa May, Sir Graham Brady, the former chairman of the influential Conservative Backbench 1922 committee, as well as his right hand Liam Booth-Smith on July 4, 2024-the day of the general election.
