The American Institute of Peace says employees of the effectiveness of the government of Elon Musk have entered its headquarters, despite protests from the non -profit organization that it is not part of the executive branch and is rather an independent agency.
CEO George Moose reported Doge’s forced access, saying, ‘Doge broke into our building.’
Police were present at the scene in Washington on Monday night, across the street from the State Department in the foggy lower neighborhood.
The Doge workers gained access to the building on Monday after several unsuccessful efforts and after being rejected on Friday, a senior American Institute of Peace Officer said, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.
It was not immediately clear what the Doge staff members did or sought in the non -profit building.
The incident follows President Donald Trump’s executive order on February 19, which targeted the organization and a few others for the purpose of shrinking the size of the federal government. The administration has since set fire to fire and canceled programs with some of these organizations.
Doge expressed interest in the American Institute of Peace for weeks, but was refuted by advocates who argued that the status of the institute protected it from the kind of reorganization that occurs with other federal agencies.

Doge members arrived with two FBI agents on Friday, who left after the Institute’s lawyer told them about USIP’s “private and independent status”, the organization said in a statement.
The American Institute of Peace says on its website that it is a non -part -sized, independent organization that is “dedicated to protecting US interests by preventing violent conflicts and broker -peace agreements abroad.”
The non-profit organization says it was created by Congress in 1984 as an ‘independent non-profit corporation’, and it does not meet the US code definitions of ‘government corporation’, ‘government-controlled corporation’ or ‘independent enterprise’.
The American African Development Foundation, a federal agency investing in Africa’s small businesses, was also mentioned in Trump’s executive order; the Inter-American Foundation, a federal agency investing in Latin America and the Caribbean; and the Presidio Trust, which oversees a national parking lot next to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
The African Development Foundation, who also unsuccessfully tried to prevent Doge staff from entering his offices in Washington, went to court, but a federal judge ruled last week that the removal of most grants and most staff would be legal.
The president of the Inter-American Foundation sued on Monday to block her shooting in February through the Trump administration.
