Jean Marsh, star of the top floor, below, is 90 years old, a friend confirmed.
Marsh’s friend, director Sir Michael Lindsay-Hogg, said in a statement to the father’s news agency: ‘Jean died peacefully in bed by one of her many loving caregivers.
“You could say that our 60 years were very close. She was just as wise and funny as someone I ever met, as well as very beautiful and friendly and talented like an actress and writer.
“An instinctively empathetic person loved by everyone who met her. We have talked on the phone almost every day for the past forty years. ‘

Marsh was best known for her role as Rose in the top floor, for which she won an Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a limited series in 1976.
