Important takeaways from ‘Coalition of the Will’s Summit
Yesterday, 31 world leaders in the Elysee Palace in Paris met to discuss ways to strengthen support for Ukraine.
Under the guidance of French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, the group made several broad decisions – although more details must be worked out during subsequent talks.
Here are the most important takeaways from the top.
‘Reasurrance Force’ will be sent to Ukraine
The United Kingdom and France are committed to having a “reassurance power” of military forces on the ground for Ukraine – but it will not be a substitute for a peacekeeping force. Macron said.
“But it will be a power that will be placed in strategic areas that have been agreed with the Ukrainians to provide sustainable support in the long run, reassurance and deterrent to any possible Russian aggression,” he said.
Sanctions will become more difficult
Sir Keir Starmer said now is not the time to release sanctions against Russia.
“On the contrary, now is the time to increase the sanctions against Russia, to bring them to the table, to these negotiations, to the hope of a ceasefire and a long and a lasting and safe ceasefire,” he said.
Peace agreement must be reached in weeks, not months
Sir Keir once again said that Russia is playing games, and that there should be more pressure on Russia to get to the table earlier.
“I don’t want to put a hard deadline on this, but we have to see that it develops in days and weeks, months and months, and we have to go to space,” he said.
Europe will increase military coordination
Emmanuel Macron said the ‘willing’ coalition ‘agreed to boost their military investment and improve the coordination of the defense between the countries.

Why the minerals of Ukraine are so special – and why Trump wants them so much
But what are these minerals exactly and why are they so sought after?
Ukraine is often recognized for its large agricultural land and industrial heritage, but below the surface lies one of the world’s most remarkable geological formations, the ‘Ukrainian shield’.
This massive, exposed crystalline rock formed more than 2.5 billion years ago spans a large part of Ukraine. It represents one of the oldest and most stable continental blocks of the earth.
The minerals have become central to world politics, writing Munira Raji:

Putin asks to replace Zelensky with temporary administration in Ukraine to end war
Vladimir Putin suggested that Ukraine be placed under a form of temporary application by removing the current Volodymyr Zelensky administration, to reach new elections and the signature of key agreements in the war, Russian news agencies reported early today.
“In principle, a temporary administration can naturally be introduced in Ukraine under the protection of the UN, the United States, European countries and our partners,” Putin said in conversations with the sea middled.
“It would be to keep democratic elections and bring a competent government to power that enjoys the trust of the people and then starts talking to them to them about a peace treaty,” he said.
Moscow incorrectly claimed that the Zelensky administration in Kyiv ‘is out -of -right’ because they did not hold elections last year. However, the Ukrainian Constitution says no elections can be held during a war period and while the country is under martial law.
Mr. Putin also appreciated that Donald Trump’s efforts to continue with direct talks with Russia – unlike his predecessor Joe Biden, who avoided contacts – want the new president.
“In my opinion, the newly elected president of the United States, for a variety of reasons, sincerely wants an end to the conflict,” the agencies quoted him.
