After a hot game earlier this month, the weather took a cooler turn.
But later today, the temperature looks like they can rise as high as 21c (70F).
The producer of Sky News Weather Jo Robinson said: ‘This is the spring match – the first day of the astronomical spring – and it will probably be the hottest day of the year so far.
‘It will be hot and sunny on Thursday afternoon, with 21c (70F) possible in the south.
‘There is a small chance that 22c (72F) can be seen.
‘London, the home provinces, the South Midlands, western areas of East Anglia and parts of the West Lands seem best to see the temperature above 20c (68F) today, perhaps even the West Coast of Wales.
“Anything above 19.7c would be the highest temperature of the year so far.”
Parts of the country are expected to be hotter than Barcelona in Spain and Athens in Greece – with highlights of 15c and 12c respectively.
The highest recorded British Spring Equinox temperature was 21.5c in 1972 (70.7F).

The hot weather is off to a high -pressure system east of the UK, which is currently helping to draw warmer air north across the country.
Thursday’s sunshine can be broken by a cloud in the central parts of England.
A what weekend
The weather is expected to be more restless.
While the last day of the work week will remain for very warm, some will experience rain coming from the southwest.

The producer of Sky News Weather Jo Robinson added: ‘Friday will bring rain to the West, but the warmth will remain in a large part of Britain.
“More cloud and a reinforcing wind average temperature are unlikely to be as high as today, but 20c (68F) is still possible somewhere across an area from Northwestern Scotland to Southeast England.”
She added: “This weekend will bring more restless conditions, with temperature lower than previous days, but maybe a little above average.
“There will also be a few miles, with only a limited frost.”
Meteorological Spring always starts on March 1 while the astronomical spring begins every year around March 20.
The former is based on the annual temperature cycle and the latter is based on the earth’s position in relation to the sun.
