A year and a half ago, Tyra Banks and her family decided to make a big move to Australia — and she couldn’t be any happier.
On an episode of Today With Jenna & Friends on Monday, April 14, Banks, 51, explained that she had the idea to move to Australia with her partner, Louis Bélanger-Martin, and son, York, 9, after doing business there for some time.
“So I have this ice cream company, SMiZE and Dream,” the supermodel shared with host Jenna Bush Hager. “I’ve been going to Australia a lot because we were making a lot of our ice cream there in this big facility, doing our recipes.”
Banks noted that she “just fell in love with” the country as she kept traveling there.
“Every time I went back, and went back … and the three countries that eat the most ice cream: America, New Zealand and Australia,” she added. “So I was like, ‘I’m happy here and they love to eat some ice cream, so, are we going to do this, family?’ And we did.”
After opening up about her reasoning for moving to Australia, Banks shared a video that showed a glimpse of what a day in her life looks like while she’s in the process of opening a “3,000-square-foot flagship store” for SMiZE and Dream.

“Rise and shine. Welcome to my home in Sydney, Australia. It’s 6:30 a.m., and that means it’s time to make my coffee,” she said in the Today clip.
Banks went on to share that after she finishes her coffee, she likes to go to Tumbalong Park, where she loves to bring her son (whom she shares with ex Erik Asla).
“People come from all over Sydney to enjoy this park,” she said. “They have what we call a little mini water park. There’s swings and stuff for kids. There’s this new place that they’ve built for the bigger kids that you really can’t get your kid away from. So be careful when you come here.”
The former America’s Next Top Model host then showed clips from Darling Harbor and the Sydney Opera House before concluding the video.
“Now the best parts of Sydney are the views, and we get to commute by ferry,” she gushed. “This is beautiful Sydney Harbor at night. Australia has been a dream come true for me and my family.”
Banks has previously discussed how she wanted to shift her focus to her ice cream business after retiring from hosting Dancing With the Stars.
“I’m really focused on business, like, crazy, crazy focused on business,” she told TMZ in March 2023. “I think it’s time to graduate from the dance floor to the stock market floor. Mic drop. I feel it’s time for me to really focus on my business and my entrepreneurship.”
Banks noted that her “heart and soul” are in “her business and producing TV,” and she couldn’t do that while hosting DWTS.
“So you’ll see me creating things, not just hosting things,” she explained to the outlet.
