One student used scissors to assault two teachers at a Christchurch school this afternoon.

Police are investigating the incident after being called to the Haeata community campus in the suburb of Aranui, just before 2 pm on Wednesday.

Director Peggy Burrows said the attack happened in the school’s primary section and involved a student under 16.

She said a teacher was cut in the palm of her hand and another received injuries to her head.

Burrows said the attack was witnessed by several employees and students.

The teachers were treated by their injuries and were on leave for the rest of the week.

Burrows said the pair was now at home with his whānau and did not require hospitalization.

“Please check with your ākonga/student if you observe any evidence of anguish or anxiety and contact Kura/school if they are having difficulty processing what they may have witnessed during this attack.”

Burrows said there was a lot of support in the Haeta for the students who felt upset about what they witnessed.

The Haeta community campus was also investigating the attack.

The school was still planned to proceed as usual on Thursday.
