Trump’s stance on border leads to trouble for Canadians going to U.S. 

An immigration lawyer said that in addition to reports that Canadians have been detained at the border or that green card holders have been detained since the Trump administration’s law enforcement-oriented policy came into effect.

Len Saunders, a lawyer based in Brian, Washington, said the accounts could upset Canadians because there has been less traffic in the southern border in the past few weeks.

“It seems like the Trump administration has been carried out from low law enforcement under the Biden administration to the Trump administration, and the pendulum seems to have splurged a lot,” Sanders told 1130 Newsradio.

He thinks this could be a trend for the next four years, and we have only been in the Trump administration for two months.

“You’ll hear stories after stories. You’ll hear students detained and deported on a student visa,” Sanders explained.

It is not uncommon for border officials to search your phone. However, Saunders recommends moving forward, and if people intend to drive on the border, people should double-check what’s on the device.

“Your average Canadian is not a terrorist, nor is there no benefit, but a lot of people may not support Trump. They may have this on social media and they may be worried. I don’t think so you won’t be rejected for this.”

“It’s hard to say, but be very careful, as a Canadian citizen and the U.S., if there is anything on social media or something you think you think is harmful to your entry,

He believes some of the experiences shared online, including the case of Jasmine Mooney, who was detained for two weeks while applying for a work permit at the U.S./Mexico border, gave Canadians a second idea for their travel plans in the future.

He recommends flying from Canada to the United States rather than driving if you are concerned about your admission fee.

“You can ask to leave immediately. There will always be a RCMP offer to sit there when you immigrate through the United States. So if you feel uncomfortable or want to leave Vancouver Airport, feel free to leave U.S. Customs.”
