President Donald Trump escalated his criticism of Russia on Sunday after being accused of taking Vladimir Putin’s side in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine for weeks.
The US President called up Kristen Welker of NBC before her Sunday appearance as host of Meet the press, According to Welker. He told her that he was “completed” after the Russian presidential elections in Ukraine and again questioned the legitimacy of the government of Volodymyr Zelensky – comments that the US president said were unhelpful.
Although US negotiators are currently moderating peace talks between Ukrainian and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia, Donald Trump blamed Putin’s shoulders on Sunday, adding that he was “very angry” for the Russian president. Putin’s recent remarks about Zelensky, he said, “didn’t go in the right place.”
The president further threatened to increase rates on the export of Russian energy if an agreement is not reached due to interference or delays at the end of Moscow. The US recently levied tariffs on a number of countries, including Canada and Mexico, as the Trump administration seeks to force international policy concessions through trade action.
“If Russia and I are unable to make a deal to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault – what it would not be – but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I’m going to put secondary rates on oil,” Trump told NBC News.
“It would be that if you buy oil from Russia, you can’t do business in the United States,” he continued. “There will be a 25 percent tariff on all oil, a rate of 25 to 50 points on all oil.”
Peace talks between Russia and Ukraine come three years after the Putin’s full scale began in earnest, and with hundreds of thousands now dead in conflict, including more than 12,000 Ukrainian civilians.
State Department officials told reporters last week that the financing was resumed for a program operated by Yale University’s humanitarian research laboratory, which aims to document and detect nearly 20,000 Ukrainian children presumably kidnapped by the Russian forces during the invasion. The program initially lost money due to the cutting of the editions of Elon Musk, but was started again after a dual exclamation.
The plans for a broader peace agreement ending the three -year open warfare are still far on the horizon, and US officials have warned that both Ukraine and Russia should make concessions to get an agreement. It is still unclear whether the Trump administration plans to force the Ukrainian recognition of Russia’s control over Crimea, although it seems that Ukraine will be forced to join his bid to NATO – a goal supported by the last US president.
Trump has named his relationship with Putin and his dealing capabilities as reasons why he could end the Russia-Kraine conflict in ’24 hours’ if he were elected president during the 2024 campaign. The reality of the sluggish pace of peace talks seems to frustrate the Republican president, whose IRS was previously visible when he and vice president JD Vance Zelensky in the White House angered in an ambush style before the news cameras. That bloating of the relationship between American and Ukraine led to the termination of talks around Kyiv who gave access to rare Earth-mineral deposits to US buyers, which portrayed the Trump administration as their own kind of safety guarantee for the future of Ukraine, assuming Russian officials would think twice about the threat of US economic assets.
Over the past week, it was reported that a new push from Trump is aimed at ensuring an agreement to repay the Ukrainian war debt through royalties on Ukrainian energy sales, including oil and gas.
