Tory MP defends Conservative campaign plan amid pressure to pivot

Calgary fourth-year MP Michelle Rempel Garner told the National Post in an interview on Saturday that she was confident that Poilievre’s intentional step-by-step approach to launching detailed policies was the road to victory for the April 28 vote.

“A sport is a long time, and one of the things you have to do is… come up with a hopeful plan and show stability, peace and discipline,” she said. “People respond to it when it’s real.”

Some critics in the party and have not suggested that Poilievre’s campaign needs to focus more on the tariff threats of U.S. President Donald Trump. But Rempel Garner said the sport is already doing so, while also developing a range of policies to boost the economy and struggle with Canadians.

“What I’ve seen in the past week do is that,” she said. “It’s great to see. ”

Poilievre kicked off the first week of the event by posting a clever short video that introduced a new policy recommendation to social media every morning.

On Saturday, Poilievre announced through a short video that the conservative government will allow travel trade workers to deduct all related fees from taxes while eliminating the current private jet travel tax.

It follows an earlier announcement on the “shovel-ready” development zone, income tax rates, retirement age, life sentences for humans and gun traffickers, and tax-free savings account contribution limits.

Rempel Garner said that the particularity and practicality of Poilievre’s proposal so far has greatly helped her campaign.

“It’s a game change overall when you can knock on the door and tell them a policy that will make their lives more affordable.”

She is confident that the material of the conservative platform will win the novel effects currently promoting liberal Mark Carney.

“Carney’s premier did not make rent or groceries cheaper, nor did he end the opioid crisis,” Rempel Garner said.

“At the end of the day, (Carney) has not issued any announcements yet, unless you calculate the stealing of our policies, this will make life more affordable for Canadians.”

A chief adviser to Ontario Prime Minister Doug Ford has just won a majority in the provincial election and has been strong in his campaign for Poilievre. Kory Teneycke said in multiple public appearances that he would lose if Poilievre doesn’t shift the focus to who can best engage in cross-border relations with the Trump administration.

Rempel Garner said she was skeptical of the sincerity of Teneycke and other conservative speakers.

“(Kory) has my cell phone number and I will be with him and his friends in any conservative movement in the Greater Toronto area and welcome them to knock on the door for us.”

“They have my open invitation.”
