Toronto Public Health (TPH) is providing the public with potential measles exposures about popular pizza shops, as well as two rail travels between London and Toronto.
TPH said a person working in Toronto tested positive for measles and could expose the public to the virus at the following locations on Friday, March 21:
• Libretto, pizzeria, 155 University Avenue, about 11:50 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
•Canadian Train 82, train from London to Toronto 3, about 6:05 to 10:50
• From Toronto to London, by Canadian Railway Canada Train 83, about 4:10 to 8:30 pm from Toronto to London
“Measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads in the air when an infected person breathes, coughs, sneezes or talks,” TPH explained in a release. “The virus can stay in the air or on the surface for up to two hours. If people breathe contaminated air or touch an infected surface and then touch the eyes, nose or mouth, they will get infected.”
Urge anyone who may be exposed to check their vaccination records and monitor their symptoms until Friday, April 4
If you are not sure if you have been vaccinated, a blood test can also determine immunity.
The vaccine is usually taken at 12 months of age and the second dose is between four and six years of age, TPH said.
Anyone who has not received a measles vaccine twice or who has no measles disease is at risk of infection.
Measles symptoms can include fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes, red rash, starting from the face and spreading on the body, and small blue and white spots (koplik spots) that can appear in the mouth and throat.
