The Toronto Police Department and the union representing the police reached a tentative multi-year agreement.
The new collective agreement was proposed six weeks after negotiations.
Board Chairman Shelley Carroll said the agreement fits with the city’s investments, adopting a modern, community-centric policing approach and a renewed focus on retention and reform.
Clayton Campbell, president of the Toronto Police Association, said the new deal not only makes current members feel like they are being heard, but it will greatly encourage others to join their ranks.
The agreement follows a new multi-year recruitment program that was approved by the board in December.
The terms of the deal will be submitted to the force’s more than 8,500 unified and civilian members on April 16, and then a vote of approval will be held on April 17.
