Minority leader Chuck Sumer and senior Democrats from the National Security Committees have written a letter to President Donald Trump, looking for more information about reports that members of his office have used the signal app to play a group of operations and share classified Jeff Goldberg.

“We write to you with exceptional concern about the amazingly poor judgment shown by your cabinet and national security advisers,” writes senators, according to a copy of the letter received by ABC News. “You have long been advocating for accountability and transparency in the government, especially as regards the processing of classified information, national security and safety of US troops. As such, it is imperative that you deal with this violation with the seriousness and diligence you require.”
Committees “have serious questions about this incident and members need full accounting to ensure that this never happens again,” the letter said. The authors demanded a “full and unregulated” copy of the signal chat so that the respective committees can review in a safe setting.
Senators also called on Pam General Pam Bondi General to carry out a thorough investigation of the issue, citing fears that “deliberate or negligent disclosure of classified or sensitive information on national security may be a criminal violation of the spying law or other laws.”
The letter asked Trump to keep the chat in question, along with all other governmental business discussions arising in any announcement for messages, citing fears that reports for the signal – which are automatically determined after a certain period of time – may violate both the Federal Records Act and the Presidential Records Act.
“You and your cabinet are responsible for the safety and security of the US people, as well as for our military intelligence officials in this area. We expect your administration to cope with this dangerous security protocol – whether or not it is provided – with the greatest seriousness and to dispose of the ethics of our nation.”
The letter was signed by a member of the ranking of the Judicial Commission Dick Durbin, the member of the Armed Service Committee Jack Reed, the member of the Foreign Relations Committee, the Jeanne Shaheen Member, the Deputy Chairman of the Intelligence Committee Mark Warner, the Subcompit Board of the Defense Chris Peters. It is therefore a joint statement of the best democrats in committees dealing with national security issues.
In their letter to Trump, the Senators asked the answers to 10 specific questions related to the reported signal of a signal, including a complete list of its participants.
These included inquiries whether some other persons had been wrong to chat, whether someone used a personal device to access chat, whether someone was out of the country while having access to chat, and whether any classified documents were transferred to unclassified systems. Senators also asked for an answer as to whether the intelligence community had evaluated the damage to the matter.
In addition, senators asked for an answer whether any cabinet or White House employees use a signal or other commercial products to discuss classified or sensitive information or any communication subject to legal requirements for records. If so, they asked the White House to provide details of how it meets the requirements for keeping records.
