A quiet Vancouver resident suddenly crashed loudly on the street outside Wednesday morning.
Vancouver police said around 3:15 a.m. they began receiving 911 calls saying a car was driving unstable in the West 3rd and Stephens Street areas.
“When we arrived at the scene, there were many bystanders present,” Sgt. Steve Addision of the Vancouver Police Department told Global News.
“We found the driver suspected of being damaged and the child in the vehicle, a child.”
Addison said bystanders helped take care of the children while police were on the scene.
He said the driver was detained and his vehicle had been detained for 30 days in view of the immediate suspension, and they will submit a report asking for a report on the high-risk nature of driving.
Addison said police will also recommend criminal charges related to impaired driving.

He would not specify the age of the child, but said that when the officer arrived at the scene, the child was still in the car but not in the car seat.
Addison added: “We don’t think the child is physically injured.”
He said they were very grateful that no one else was injured, let alone killed.
“We heard a lot of noise and explosions,” resident Quincy Young told Global News.
She said they thought a car was knocking on the trash can and described the situation as “heartbreaking” as the child screamed behind the car.
“Thank goodness, no one was injured,” she said.
Young, who works as a psychologist, said a young child cannot understand what is going on. All they knew was a horrible situation.
“When those who should take care of you don’t do that, that can be lifelong damage.”
Her daughter, Jasper Schaller, is the owner of a car that was hit.
She told Global News that her car could not be driven.
“It’s so worrying and frightening that a child is even in this situation,” Jasper said.
Addison said the child was sent to the care of a family member along with an older sibling while the driver was detained by police. He confirmed that the police will communicate with the Ministry of Child and Family Development to ensure a safety plan for children.
