In less than two weeks of the federal election campaign, the Conservatives of Canada have removed four candidates from the competition.
Three candidates from Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia were removed later Tuesday, while the fourth candidate was on Wednesday night.
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre was asked about the strike on Thursday and said “their scrutiny process is stronger than all other political parties”.
“That’s why we have zero tolerance for anyone who does not act,” he said during his campaign in Kingston, Ontario.
The candidates were evacuated as some senior Conservative athletes and strategists said the conservative movement needed to be resettled.

Councilman Mark McKenzie from Windsor, Ontario was the first to evacuate from the conservative roster on Tuesday.
McKenzie runs on Ontario riding at Windsor-Tecumseh-Lakeshore.
Mark McKenzie said he was ousted for commenting on the podcast, saying he made a joke to former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

He told Global News in an interview Tuesday that former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should face the death penalty as he made his past comments on podcasts suggest.
Mackenzie said he said the remarks he made when co-hosting the comedy podcast in 2022 were “all jokes” and he regretted it making them regret. In the podcast, he also expressed support for public hanging.
Mackenzie said his comment was out of context, adding that he did not support them.
“My co-host wasn’t a big fan of Justin Trudeau, so we joked about public hangings in other countries. It’s all a joke. It’s a comedy podcast, right?” Mackenzie said.

He said he received a call from the party Tuesday morning asking about his podcast and his comments.
Shortly thereafter, he said, before he said he had time to send the audio files to them, Mackenzie received another call from the top party brass, telling him that he was no longer a riding candidate for the party.
He said he was disappointed to hear that the party no longer wanted him to be a candidate, but admitted that his “ready-to-shelf” remarks were “poor taste.”
Stefan Marquis runs for the Conservative Party on the Quebec riding in Laurier’s Sainte-Marie.
In an article on X, the Marquis said he received a call from an operation manager in the province Tuesday morning and was told he would no longer be a conservative candidate.
“No further pointing out that ‘certain’ individuals within the party have consulted my recent post on Twitter-X and believe that these are sufficient reasons to end our political cooperation.”
Rather than elaborating on which posts specifically mentioned, the Marquis criticized the conservative decision, saying the party “cut down a pious ally” and that he would make a living from what he called “a complex political landscape that has been proven.”

“Mr. Marquis is no longer a Conservative Party for Canadian candidates,” the party said in a statement.
Lourence Singh is the third conservative candidate to be removed from office on Tuesday.
Singh is the nominee for the British Columbia Knights in New Westminster-Burnaby-Maillardville.
A Conservative spokesman told Global News in an emailed statement Tuesday night that Singh “will not be their candidate.”
The spokesperson did not provide the reason for the removal.
Singh said in an email to Global News late Wednesday that he was fired on a nine-minute call with the party on Tuesday, but did not say what it was.
“When I tried to restore the appeal, there was no further comment,” he said.

What about other political parties?
The controversy over the conservative camp came after another federal candidate, Liberal Paul Chiang, announced Monday night that he had resigned from the resignation of Markham-Unionville candidate after commenting in January that conservative Joe Tay should hand over conservative Joe Tay to Chinese officials in exchange for a bounty.
Liberal leader Mark Carney said before the decision that the remarks were “deeply offensive” but Tony Ang had “my confidence”.
In a campaign in Edmonton on Tuesday, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh was asked about the controversy surrounding liberal and conservative candidates.
He said that so far, there was no such thing in his party.
“But if things happen, we will make the best decisions for our country, make for our democracy, so we will be ready to do that,” Singh said.
