Sergeant Matt Lee of Dunedin said police were called to a Ravelton St speech, Saint Kilda, around 8:30 am last night, after public members watched two men enter a closed backyard and start dismantling and removing scaffolding from a unoccupied house that was in reforms.
The owner was alerted and arrived to face the men shortly before the police arrived, Sergeant Lee said.
Police arrived to find a 44 -year -old man and a 37 -year -old man on the property.
They arrived at a vehicle displaying fake registration signs, the trailer had no registration signs and its ruse included wearing a “scaffolding shirt.”
The men claimed that they were simply at the wrong address, Sergeant Lee said.
The pair appeared at Dunedin’s District Court this morning, each facing an accusation of theft.
The oldest of the two was released under bail with the conditions that he does not contact his co-defendant, not less than 100 meters from Ravelton St and lies at a Dinedin address at a nightclub touch.
He should reappear next month.
The younger man was arrested in custody overnight and should make a bail request tomorrow.
