Craig Mazin, the showrunner of HBO’s hit post-apocalyptic drama The last of uspushed back against a recurring criticism of Bella Ramsey’s character.

Ramsey’s stature also influenced the cast of Dina, Ellie’s love interest in the coming second season. Isabella Merced (Strange: Romulus) was eventually thrown in the roll.
“We wanted someone to wash this contrast, this sunlight, because Ellie is tough and reserved and careful, and we wanted someone who radiates sun,” says Mazin. “We also didn’t want anyone who was 5’9, because Bella is pretty short.
