With Noah Morneau’s trio, Liam Greenree and Ilya’s protas prading round, Windsor Spitfires posted another dominant win over Sault Ste. Mary Greyhound on Saturday.

In the second straight game, the three scored four goals and 10 points in the Greyhounds who beat the seventh seed 7-1, and then had a crowd of 5,640 people in the WFCU center. The second seed Spitfires now leads seven Western Conference quarterfinal series 2-0, with the series moving to Sault Ste. Mary competes in the third game Monday.

“We will be ready to play in the third game,” said Spitfires head coach Greg Walters. “I have no questions on our team.”

In Saturday’s second straight game, Spitfires took a 2-0 lead before the Greyhound even registered for the game on goal.

Morneau started the game and started the game with a strong goal. Just two minutes into the game, rookie guard Carter Hicks jumped into the run and took out a portion of feed from rookie Ethan Garden and beat the game 2-0 after 40 seconds.

Momentum quickly turned back to Windsor and Gardens, while Greentree was 47 seconds apart in the second stage, giving Spitfires a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.

“It’s all they have.” Nitts, who had three assists on Saturday and seven assists in the series, said he also had seven pints with Greentree’s players, and Morneau added five goals and six points.

“They (Morneau and Greentree) are great players, but they’re better on the ice and it’s fun to play with them. We have chemistry and hope we keep moving forward.”

Morneau added two more goals in the third stage to complete his first OHL playoff hat-trick and scored four points while chasing Greyhound goalkeeper Nolan Lalonde.

AJ Spellacy’s speed allowed him to enter alone, and Windsor killed the penalty and he beat Landon Miller to finish the score.

“We’ve sent a message this year,” Protas said. “We’re second (seed in the conference). These two games are another piece of information we can play in the playoffs and are a good team.”
