They have emerged terrifying images of the moment when a truck cabin exploded in flames on an important Melbourne highway on Monday afternoon.
The images published by Nine show the cabin of an cement truck wrapped in flames, as well as the ashes and the debris that remained once the firefighters extinguished the fire.
Victoria’s fire rescue responded to the incident just before 3 pm and found the vehicle on with “large amounts of smoke” on the road.
“The teams worked quickly to contain the fire before making the scene safe,” said a FRV spokesman.
“The driver managed to evacuate the cabin without injuries.”
The Victoria ambulance confirmed that emergency transport was not provided.
The Environmental Protection Authority was also notified due to Diesel’s spill near the surrounding river paths.
The scene was considered under control just after 3 pm, however, the incident caused great congestion on the Monash highway.
Three of the five outgoing lanes were closed in Warrigal RD, with traffic arriving at Toorak RD and adding 65 minutes to the regular trip, according to Victraffic.
The authorities confirmed that the Victoria and the Vicroads were called to the scene to help with traffic management.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the fire was not being treated as a suspect.
