The Syrian president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, has announced a transition government, a key milestone in the moving of decades of government of the Assad family and improving the ties of Syria with the West.
The new authorities led by Islamists of Syria have been under pressure by the western and Arab countries of forming a government that is more inclusive to the various ethnic and religious communities of the country.
This pressure increased after the murders of hundreds of Alauitas civilians, the minority sect from which the leader demolished Bashar al -assad receives, in violence along the western coast of Syria earlier this month.
Mohammed Yosr Bernieh was appointed Minister of Finance, while Hind Kabawat, a Christian woman, was appointed as Minister of Social and Labor Affairs.
He kept Murhaf Abu Qasra and Asaad al-Sibani, who were already serving as defense and foreigners ministers respectively in the previous caretaker cabinet that Syria has ruled since Assad was shot down in December by a rebel ray offensive.
In January, Sharaa was appointed interim president and pledged to form an inclusive transition government that would accumulate the public institutions of Syria and direct the country to the elections, which according to him could take up to five years to maintain.
The government will not have a prime minister, and Sharaa is expected to lead the executive branch.
Earlier this month, Syria issued a constitutional statement, designed to serve as the basis for the provisional period led by Sharaa. The statement maintained a central role for Islamic law and guaranteed the rights and freedom of expression of women.
