The exchange of butter for wheat, rapeseed or olive oil can reduce the risk of an early death, according to new research.

Experts have investigated data for more than 221,000 adults, who have been succeeded 30 to 50 years, and found butter to die the risk of dying.

Over time, approximately 50,932 deaths were documented among the group, with 12.241 due to cancer and 11,240 due to heart disease.

After adapting to other factors, people in the group who had the highest butter intake had a 15% higher risk of dying from any cause compared to those with the lowest intake.

In contrast, the highest intake of plant -based oils such as wheat, olives and rapeseed is associated with a reduced 16%risk, compared to people with the lowest intake.

The researchers suggested that every 10 g per day increase in plant-based oil intake are associated with an 11% lower risk of cancer death and a 6% lower risk for death of heart disease.

Meanwhile, a higher intake of butter was associated with a 12% higher death risk for cancer.

The replacement of 10 g per day butter with an equivalent amount of vegetable oils is associated with an estimated 17% reduction in death due to any cause and a cancer death reduction.

The authors concluded in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine that “higher intake of butter is associated with increased deaths, while higher plant -based oil intake is associated with lower deaths.

“Replacing butter with vegetable oils can have significant benefits to prevent premature deaths.”

The data for the research was obtained from the US nurses ‘health study, the nurses’ health study II and the follow -up study of health workers.

Researchers included that of Harvard Medical School in the US.

People’s diet was judged by food questionnaires every four years.

Tom Sanders, Professor Emeritus of Nutrition and Dietetics at King’s College London, said: “It is an important study that shows that people who chose to eat butter do not live, as long as those who choose to eat vegetable oils.

‘Butter contains a lot of saturated fats, contains some trans fatty acids, but is very low in much -saturated fats.

“While unchanged soybean, canola and olive oils are low in saturated fatty acids, but very unsaturated fats.

‘The home message is that it is healthier to choose unsaturated vegetable oils rather than butter.

“This is especially relevant, because there was a lot of negative publicity about vegetable oils on social media, based on unfounded claims of possible harmful consequences, rather than deaths as described in the present study.”
