Sudan’s army said it reconsidered the Republican palace in Khartoum, the last strongly guarded bastion of competitive paramilitary forces in the capital, after nearly two years of fighting.
The current conflict in Sudan broke out in April 2023 when a power struggle between the military leaders and the rapid support forces (RSF) came to open battles in Khartoum and other cities.
Videos on social media showed the Army soldiers on the 21st day of Ramadan, Saint Muslim Month.
A Sudanese military officer wearing a captain’s Epaulette made the announcement in the video and confirmed that the troops were within the connection.
It seems that the palace is partly in ruins, with soldiers’ stairs cracking broken tiles under their boots.
Soldiers carrying assault rifles and rocket-powered pomegranate lansers sang: “God is the greatest!”
