Stellantis said it will resume production at the Windsor assembly plant after it takes effect earlier this week.
Unifor Local 444, a union representing factory workers, said in a Facebook post that both changes at the factory will return on April 21 and April 28.
“The company has not made any decisions yet,” the brief statement reads.
The U.S.-based automaker announced on April 2 that it would close the plant for at least two weeks, adding that the decision was mainly due to U.S. President Donald Trump’s 25% tariff on all foreign-made vehicles.
In February, Stellantis announced it would stop producing its next-generation electrified Jeep SUV at its Brampton assembly plant, citing the need to reevaluate its product strategy in a “dynamic environment.”
When the announcement was made, the company did not terminate when production would resume.
The Brampton plant, which has been preparing for the new production line since early 2024, has had about 3,000 employees before closing.
General Motors announced on Friday It is temporarily stopping production of BrightDrop electric vans at the Cami assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario.
The company said the move will lead to temporary layoffs starting April 14, with workers returning to limited production in May. After that, production will be temporarily stopped until October, during which time the plant will be re-engineered in preparation for the production of 2026 commercial electric vehicles. At the time, the plant would conduct a shift in the “foreseeable future”, which would result in indefinite layoffs of nearly 500 workers.
GM said the move was “directly related” to lower market demand and did not mention tariffs as a factor.
