A day after a federal court sought details about the status of a man from Maryland, who was deported by mistake in Salvador, the State Department told a judge that Kilmar Abrego Garcia was “alive and sure”, but still not on American soil.

“My understanding, based on the official reporting by our Embassy in Salvador Abrego Garcia, is currently being held at the Center for Terrorism in El Salvador,” said Michael Kozak, a senior official at the State Department Bureau, in a declaration presented on Saturday, after the deadline by the judge at 5 o’clock.
“He is alive and sure of this facility,” Kozak added. “He was detained according to Salvador’s sovereign, home authority.”
The Supreme Court ordered the US government to “facilitate” the return of Abrego Garcia to America.
