Springer, Bassitt help Jays split series with O’s

TOROTO — George Springer’s two-inning singles and starter Chris Bassitt’s round of six innings were enough to get the Toronto Blue Jays to beat the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 on Sunday to split the season’s four games.

Alternate receiver Tyler Heineman brought his second career to the left-field seat to lead the seventh inning to Toronto (2-2). Homer set out from reliefist Cionel Perez and provided insurance.

Bassett (1-0) spread out eight hits, hitting seven, and walked twice in his 106-shot show before 21,069 fans at the Rogers Center.

Relief Brendon Little and Yariel Rodriguez both took a closed situation as Bassitt. Jeff Hoffman finished ninth with two strikeouts in his first save of the season and ninth with 1-2-3.

Springer also beat a single in the eighth inning on the left wall.
