As many areas in northern and eastern Toronto continue to clean up from the departing ice storm More than 400,000 people have no electricity. This week in the GTA, a special weather statement for a potential freezing rain has been issued.
The potential of freezing rain will be east of Lake Huron Wednesday morning and then to eastern Ontario by the afternoon. Affected areas include York, Holden and Durham
Environment Canada said precipitation could begin, as gusts of snow and ice particles and winds could exacerbate current tree damage.
As the temperature gets high, the cold rain will turn into rainwater in the evening when it reaches Ontario.
Ice accumulation can reach up to 5 mm and can accommodate up to 40 mm of rainfall.
In Toronto and Peel areas, the special weather statement is only for rainfall and is expected to start from the early hours of Wednesday to the early hours of Thursday, with an estimated range of between 30 and 50 mm, according to the Environment Canada.
Thunderstorms can also be expected, and there may be higher numbers. A rain warning may be issued near Wednesday.
Local flooding in low-lying areas is also possible, the Meteorological Bureau said.
