Jack and Anne Clark were involved in the single vehicle accident at Christchury Akaroa RD, near Little River, around 10:40 am on April 3.
Police said they were both transported to the hospital at the time in serious condition. Anne died at Christchurch hospital that afternoon, while Jack died on April 5.
THE New Zealand Herald He reported that the couple, who drove the Mulberry House Bed & Breakfast in Akaroa for 30 years, was remembered as “special humans” in the service on Saturday.
His granddaughter Charlotte Catherwood said Herald “Whmen, residents and special friends traveled closely and from afar” to the service.
“Thirty years running a Bed & Breakfast in Akaroa means many people have appeared,” said Catherwood Herald.
“Forever Young from the heart, they simply loved and understood young people.”
The family also shared a statement exclusively with the Herald.
“Their teaching has never stopped, even when they retired from their English teaching careers and the doors of Mulberry House are forever open to friends and family,” he said.
The statement said that Jack, who was born in the United States, was “indescribably wise.”
“He saw everything … when growing sometimes in a tent as a child, being parked in the navy for the US in Hawaii as a boy, raising three boys in the US before moving to New Zealand after meeting Anne, the love of his life and taking care of his children and the rest of our followed Whānau,” he read.
Jack was an ex -teacher at a Detroit school. The family statement said he was the “most kind and patient soul” and Anne was “bigger than life”, the Herald reported.
The common coffee in Akaroa also paid tribute to the couple and closed their doors on funeral day.
“Anne and Jack illuminated our days by visiting us to their usual white and American white and served in their own special cups,” said the Café Facebook page.
“We will miss Jack’s quick intelligence and the charming smile and elegance and generosity of Anne. Many of Anne’s beautiful clothes are proudly worn by the ordinary team.”
The serious accident unit performed a scene exam at the time of the accident and a police investigation is underway.
