Sir Keir Starmer said 24,000 people have been returned since Labor took power when he opened the government’s border safety summit.
The prime minister, who gave his opening remarks to the summit, said those returned “have no right to be here” and said it was the ‘highest rate of return for eight years’.
Since Labor has held office, 29.884 people have been noticed who cross the channel at 542 small boats.

Domestic ministers and law enforcement from more than 40 countries are at the Central London meeting.
Meta, X and Tiktok representatives are also there to discuss how to tackle the online promotion of illegal migration.
Sir Keir criticized the previous conservative government for raising illegal migration, saying: “The UK has been a gentle touch on migration for too long.”
He said countries around the world should stand together, and people smuggling should be treated as a global security threat similar to terrorism.

She also calls the summit ‘unprecedented’, with countries from all over the world participating, including the US, Vietnam, Iraq and France.

Ms. Cooper announced early Monday morning that £ 30m for funding ‘high impact operations’ by the Border Security Command (BSC) will finance supply chains, illegal finance and trade routes in Europe, Western Balkan, Asia and Africa.
An additional £ 3m will be provided to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to increase its capacity to prosecute organized international smugglers and to support the BSc to pursue and arrest those responsible for people responsible for people.
