A 12-year-old girl died of injury after a house fire in Oshawa last week Claiming the life of her mother and sister.
At about 8 a.m. on March 12, emergency responders were summoned to a home in McGrigor Street and John Street West near Nassau Street.
A 56-year-old man was found at home by Durham Regional Police Department (DRP) officers who told them that his wife and their two children were inside.
Oshawa firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions and removed the three from their homes.
A 46-year-old woman and a nine-year-old girl were taken to a local regional hospital and died of injuries.
The man and the couple’s 12-year-old daughter were taken to the hospital for life-threatening injuries. Police said the second child died early on March 17.
Police said his father’s condition improved and he is expected to survive.
Police said the autopsy showed no signs of foul.
“The injuries suffered are believed to be caused by the fire,” police said.
“The fire marshal’s office is continuing to investigate the cause, origin and environment of the fire, but at this stage, it is not arson.”
Seven DRP officials were also sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
