Four Russian journalists accused of working with the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny were sentenced to five and a half years imprisonment.
The trial of Antonina Favorskaya, Sergei Karelin, Constantin Gabov and Artem Kriger on charges of belonging to a
Extremist group has been held behind closed doors in a court in Moscow since October. All four denied the charges.
Prosecutors have accused them of making material for Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) YouTube channel, which is in banned in Russia as a ‘foreign agent’ and an extremist organization.
They asked the prison sentence of five years and 11 months for each of the defendants.
At a court in Moscow on Tuesday, they were convicted and were jailed for five and a half years.

Alexei Navalny died in February 2024
Ms Favorskaya recorded the last video of Navalny who participated in a court hearing the day before he died.
The opposition leader who died in mysterious circumstances In an Arctic penal colony in February last year, the most prominent critic of the Russian president Vladimir Putin.
He had a campaign for years against the Putin regime and corruption in the country’s elite and led major protests against Kremlin.
He serves a 19-year imprisonment on charges of corruption and extremism, which he denied when he died.
Western leaders, Navalny’s allies and his widow accused the Kremlin of killing him, denying Russia.

Since the start of Russia’s war in Ukraine in 2022 in domestic and foreign reporters, Moscow has been trying to criticize the invasion.
Nearly 40 journalists and media newspapers are currently in custody in Russia, according to the International Press Freedom Group reporters without borders.
