Vladimir Putin agreed to an immediate 30-day break in strikes on energy infrastructure in Ukraine during a long phone call with Donald Trump.
The Russian and US presidents spoke about an hour and a half, as the Trump administration aimed to put an end to the conflict that began after the Moscow forces performed a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Mr Putin agreed to the limited ceasefire, but stopped supporting a wider 30 -day break in the battle the White House wants.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr zelenskyy After the call, he said he supported the US proposal to stop Kyiv’s strikes on Russian energy infrastructure.

The Kremlin also said after the call that Russia and Ukraine would exchange 175 prisoners of war on Wednesday.
Moscow added that it would also hand over 23 very wounded soldiers to Ukraine.

The call between Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin is just the latest innings in a dramatically shifting relationship between the two superpowers.

Mr. Trump, who has long admired Mr. Putin showed, Ukraine blamed Russia’s unspoken invasion.

“This process should lead to a righteous and lasting peace for Ukraine. We will stand with Ukraine as long as it takes to ensure that Russia can never launch an illegal invasion again.”
Shortly after the call, Air Raid warns sounded in Kyiv, which was followed by explosions in the city.
This comes after the AES group was severely damaged by private oil refinery after a Russian attack on Monday in the Kharkiv region.
The AES group confirmed the destruction of the facility in Merefa after launching about 20 drones on it.
