San Jose, California – A dozen propalist protesters who were arrested at the University of Stanford last year after occupying and supposedly caused hundreds of thousands of dollars damage to a campus building are now facing charges.
The twelve people, current and former Stanford students have been charged with crime vandalism and a conspiracy for a crime of penetration, said Santa Clara District Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday in a news message.
Those who are charged vary at the age of 19 to 32, the DA service reported. They will be appointed later this month in the Hall of Justice in San Jose.
A student journalist, who was arrested with protesters but was not charged with vandalism, was not charged.
Stanford’s absorption began around dawn on June 5, 2024, the last day of spring hours at the University of Silicone Valley of California. Some protesters barricades inside the building that houses the University President’s office. Others connect weapons outside, Stanford Daily reports at the time. The group chants “Palestine will be free, we will release Palestine.”
The lifting ended three hours later.
Prosecutors blame the demonstrators of spray painting on the building, breaking windows and furniture, deactivating security cameras and scattered red liquid described as fake blood through objects throughout the building. Prosecutors say damage has been evaluated in hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Mobile phones belonging to the arrested have shown communications regarding the planning of the operation, including “Guide to Occupation of themselves,” prosecutors said.
