Prince Andrew’s damaged reputation led to links with Chinese man accused of spying

The Commission for Special Immigration Appeals issued the statement of witness of the real assistant Dominic Hampshire, who helped organize meetings between the prince and the alleged spy, the Chinese businessman Tengbo Yang.

The statement initially remained private, but the commission published it after appeals from the news organizations that argued that it was of public interest.

“After Newsnight’s interview and in the following months, it was clear that Duke’s reputation was unrecoverable,” said Hampshire in the witness statement.

“This was a common feeling within the royal house, despite what the Duke thought it could happen.

“It was very clear internally within the real home that we would have to analyze the options for the future of the Duke away from the real duties,” he said.

Andrew, also known as the Duke of York, has said that he accepted the Government Council and stopped contact with the Chinese citizen as soon as the concerns were raised.
