Police say ‘multiple’ pedestrians struck by vehicle at TMU, suspect fled


Toronto police said several pedestrians were hit by a car into a crash lane on the pedestrian-only sidewalk on the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) campus Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around the Yonge Street and the Gerrard Street East Area on Nelson Mandela’s walk.

Police said four pedestrians were injured.

The two were taken to a local hospital, one was seriously life-threatening injury and the other was slightly injured.

Police said two other people were evaluated on site and refused to transport to the hospital.

Police confirmed that the car was not left at the scene. The vehicle is described as a dark green sedan with a cracked windshield and unknown license plate.

The last time I saw it heading east towards Church Street on Gould Street.

It is not clear whether this was intentional.

In alerts on their website People are asked to avoid the area due to “active investigation”.

“For safety reasons, please avoid walking between E and Gould Street immediately.”

The university said there is no impact on courses, labs or exams at the moment, and employees should continue to work as usual.

“As they become available, further updates will be provided. Once the issue is resolved, a fully clear notification will be sent.”
