Ottawa police said they arrested a man Saturday night after an hour-long lockdown on Parliament Hill.
Investigators said the man entered the East neighborhood without authorization Saturday afternoon and blocked himself inside the building.
In a social media article, they said he was detained after no one was involved.
There is no direct charge.
Police initially issued a warning Saturday afternoon telling anyone in the East neighborhood that there is a council office, seeking asylum in the nearest room, closing and locking all doors and hiding.
People evacuated from the buildings and police closed a large area of Wellington Street in front of Parliament Hill, blocking traffic and pedestrians.

More than three hours after the lockdown began, police will extend the exclusion area from a block of Wellington Street to Sparks Street.
Ottawa Police Department. Mark Bouwmeester told reporters around 7:30 p.m. that the situation in the incident was “suspicious” but there were few details about what was happening inside.

Police will not say whether the man was considered armed or that he posed a threat.
Ottawa Police brought special forces, including at least one dog and explosives unit. Two bomb disposal unit robots were seen in front of the central block.
The government website said the East District is in charge of the offices of the senators and their staff, but Parliament Hill has been mostly quiet this month due to the federal election.
Parliament has been dissolved since March 23.
The site says the building once served as an officer of Sir John A. Macdonald and Sir George-Étienne Cartier, and it still contains “the faithful entertainment of the offices of famous residents since the 19th century”.
