A major search operation was launched after an 11-year-old girl fell into the Thames river and disappeared when she played with friends, neighbors claimed.
Police helicopters and boats were sent in the search after the girl fell into the water near the Woolwich feather on Monday around 13.15 in the east of London.
Two panicked friends she was before she entered the Thames warned neighbors and shouted “my friend in the water”.
Her family is aware of the incident and is supported by officers.
A neighbor told the sun: “She apparently called her father and asked if she could take off her shoes and appease in the water because it was hot.
“The little boy holds her hand to help her walk into the water, but of course she slipped because it’s really smooth.
“Once she fell, she’s gone. She just disappeared into the tide. The boy ran to one of my neighbors for help, but it was too late. ‘
A mother said she carried a lifeline to the coastline to try to save her, but that she couldn’t find the child.
Kerry Benadjaoud, 62, in the lifelong environment said: ‘My neighbor next door, she was outside her garden and there were two little children running, and they said’ my friend is in the water ‘. “
The neighbor called Ms Benadjaoud, who said she then went to fetch a nearby life.
The two women live in a residential street leading to Barge House Causeway – a concrete slope that goes directly into the Thames river and used to transport boats.
A man told Ms Benadjaoud that he called the police, she said, adding, “But he said he could see her (the girl’s) hands go down. When I got there with the ring, I couldn’t find her. ‘
Ms Benadjaoud said she found shoes, a sock, a coat and a phone near the river and handed the objects to the police.
According to the UKNIP news agency, the rescue operation also involves RNLI, a Border Force Viper boat and a search and rescue helicopter.
A spokesman for the RNLI said their lifeboat was “put down” after being called to Woolwich.
A spokeswoman for Scotland Yard said: “Police were called around 1315 hours on Monday, March 31 after reports of an 11-year-old girl entering the river the Thames near Barge House Causeway, E16.
A large -scale response is continued, supported by all emergency services, and works together to do an extensive search in efforts to locate her.
“Her next of kin were made aware and supported by officers.”
The London Fire Brigade deployed drones and its boot to help a ‘systematic search’ of the area.
A spokesman for the London ambulance service said their crew arrived at the scene, but had since stood.
“We have sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance staff, an advanced paramedic, an incidental response officer and members of our Response Team for Dangerous Area (Heart),” they said
