Police ‘intervene in fights’ and seize crossbow after being called to disturbance in Salford | UK News

Seven people have been arrested and a crossbow has recovered after reports on a gun branded during a disorder in Salford, police said.

Greater Manchester police said the alarm was raised around 9:30 on Monday, with specialist officials deployed to Romney Street.

The power said that a crossbow was restored during the exclamation.

A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

Six teenagers, aged between 16 and 18, were also arrested on the suspicion of the fellow.

Police have issued a 24-hour distribution order for Cheetham Street West, Littleton Road, Poppy Lane, Langley Road South and Lisadel Street.

Detective superintendent Simon Mealees said: “Our quick response from our leading officers on a report prevented it from being a dangerous incident.

‘There were a large group of youths gathering in the area, and officers intervened in fighting and helped several young people return safely. Fortunately, no one at the scene needed medical treatment.

“Our investigation is moving at a pace; we have arrested seven people and took a weapon off the street while inquiries are underway.”

A police presence will remain in the area as inquiries continue.

Rev Mealees added: “We understand that an incident of this nature will cause alarm, and we encourage everyone to talk to a neighborhood officer; they are there to help.”
