The wings of a plane hit another plane in Washington, DC’s Reagan National Airport, on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, two local US airlines battled wings while he was on the taxi lane at about 12:45 p.m. One flight was on his way to Charleston, South Carolina, while the other was to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
At least three members of the congress were on board one of the flights on social media. No injuries were reported.
Representative Nick Lalota posted on the incident on X: “Serving in Congress was accompanied once in a lifetime experiences … Like now only stationary on the runway at DCA, another plane just bumped into our wing.”
“On the way to the gate, but fortunately everyone is in order,” he added. ‘(And [Representative Grace Meng]Is handing out grapes!) ”
Mix, representing Queens, New York, responded to Lalota’s post and confirmed that her and her colleagues were in order.
“I am grateful that no one was injured today, but this incident underlines this urgent need for all FAA work that keeps our runways safe,” she wrote.
New Jersey’s Josh Gottheimer was also on board. He told ABC News that the ‘plane shook tremendously’ and ‘it was pretty clear that we were hit.’
“The pilot arrived and said we were not going anywhere except back to the gate,” he added.
American Airlines said in a statement that “the damage was limited to a wing on every plane” and each aircraft was “out of service to be inspected.”
On January 29, an American Airlines jet and a Black Hawk helicopter collided above the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport. All 64 people aboard the American Airlines Jet and the three people on board the Black Hawk helicopter have been killed.
