Plane crashes in front of crowds during performance at Avalon Airshow

The small plane lost control and crashed into the asphalt just after 5 pm

The pilot suffered serious lesions of upper and lower body and an air ambulance has been sent, said the Victoria ambulance.

The pilot was the only occupant of the plane when he crashed, police said.

“The incident occurred at a significant distance from the spectators and there have been no reports of more injuries,” said a police spokesman.

The gasps could be heard from the crowd of thousands when the plane hit the ground.

The air show has been suspended for the rest of the day as emergency services respond to the incident.

Public transport can take time to arrive given the unexpected early final, said a spokesman for the transport department.

“We ask the clients of the event to remain patients, since tens of thousands try to go at the same time,” said the spokesman.

“It will take considerable time for everyone to leave the event site, unfortunately, the delays are inevitable.”

“The ASB is implementing a team of transportation researchers from its Canberra office, specializing in aircraft operations and maintenance,” said a spokesman.

“Researchers will carry out a variety of evidence collection activities, including the site examination and remains, and the recovery of any aircraft component for a more detailed examination in the ATSB technical facilities in Canberra.

“Researchers will also seek to interview anywhere involved and collect relevant registered information, including available flight monitoring data, as well as pilot maintenance records and airplanes and weather information.”

The six -day event is the largest airline and defense exposure and the highest aerospace in the southern hemisphere.

Gates opened the public only a few hours ago, after several commercial days before the week.

The air show had to come to an end on Sunday night.
