In February, a submission was presented that Fowler RD and Staunton RD were sealed to solve dust problems and cars damage.
But a committee meeting on Tuesday that discussed the cost of work proved that the issue was a bridge too far – for now.
Deputy Mayor Tom Campbell began the discussion by saying that it was the wrong year to consider the task of a financial perspective.
He believed a complete job was preferable to cheaper options, but he thought there was not enough money to do so.
A report prepared by the board team showed that it would cost $ 108,000 to complete OTTA sealing in 1 km of Fowler RD-A semi-permanent surface that would suppress dust for about five years.
This was compared to a regular seal that would cost more than $ 466,000 to complete.
The longest, 3.3 km long Staunton RD, would cost $ 297,000 for Otta Seal and over $ 778,000 to completely seal.
Mayor Nobby Clark said the provisional measures are undesirable, highlighting other roads also needed attention such as Omaui RD, Huruhuru RD and part of Black RD.
Lesley Soper was pleased that the recipients raised the issue, but said the board needed to prioritize.
“My feeling would be addressing an isolated one right now is not the way to go on when we know we have several to prioritize,” she said.
The chairman of the Infrastructure and Project Committee, Grant Dermody, summed up the feelings of the elected members as agreing that the work needed to be done, recognizing that there were competing demands amid a difficult financial time.
Finally, the committee decided that it would seek to put the road on a list for consideration with others in the next long -term plan review, which occurs at a time similar to the financing of the National Land Transportation Program.
The contribution of residents as part of a joint financing option would also be considered.
The roads in question are in West Plains, about 15 minutes northwest of the city center.
